Me? I live at the Beach in Delaware. I'm a marketer, and entrepreneur. After college I entered into radio (on air at a morning show in Richmond, VA for 4 years) but returned to my native Eastern Shore (the Delmarva Peninsula) about 10 years ago. Currently I am the President-CEO-Chief Propagandist for SugarFly Studios. I am a student and teacher of all shapes and forms of marketing.
We’re wrapping up filming on this year’s 2011 “year in review” video for the Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce. What is this? Over a year and a half ago… Carol Everhart (President & CEO of the Chamber) approached me to take over her year end “movie” production. Each year, she would have clips filmed throughout the year of events that the Chamber participated in… Merchants Attic Sale, Chamber Luncheons, Green Force Meetings, Shredding Days, Sandcastle Contest in Summer, Movies on the Beach in Summer, Sea Witch Festival (which now draws more than 100,000 people to the resort area at the end of October – a significant achievement for any beach town – and when temps can sometimes hover around 30 degrees), Holiday Festivals and more.
The real shenanigans come into play every month at “Business after hours”. This is where chamber members show up, socialize, network, laugh, just have an all around great time. BAH – as it is abbreviated, moves around the area each month, but each month the host… puts out an incredible selection of food, drinks, etc. BAH is where we do the most of our filming, and the members both love and hate our presence there. They love it, in that we make them do all kinds of crazy things… and for that reason, they hate it too. We typically show up 30 minutes after BAH starts, which gives a little time for the first few drinks to take effect.
Each year the End of Year video is themed after a movie… it’s shown only once – at the end of January of the next year. The video then disappears into the Chamber vault to never be seen publicly again. It doesn’t get shown online, not in future chamber functions, just once and done. It’s because of this that we are also able to get state senators, representatives, business leaders, the Governor, etc to participate. When it’s finished editing… it truly is a masterpiece. This year’s theme is Zorro. The Catherine Zeta Jones, Anthony Hopkins, Antonio Banderas film. I have been trying to get VP Joe Biden (one of Delaware’s own) to play the part of “Elder Zorro”, but that connection is out of my hands. Hopefully some day… it will make my year. I mentioned it to Beau, who thought hysterical… we’ll see.
This year’s end of year video/new officer installation dinner will be held at the Atlantic Sands Ballroom on Thursday, January 26th 2012. Tickets are $35 a piece and include a lavish buffet. It’s a great night, which culminates with the showing of our video. Look forward to seeing you there.
