It was 2 months in planning… a year in execution. Alex Moore of Seaboard Hotels and I sat together last June in his office downtown Rehoboth Beach & thought of ways we could capture more video views specifically for Rehoboth & Dewey Beach. Obviously it was going to be a YouTube campaign, but what were the particulars of the videos, when would they be shot, what would they feature, etc. We came up with a list of several topics – breakfast, lunch, dinner, outdoor fun, etc. These would be created as “secrets” for travelers – local hangouts, local businesses, local places to go and see & experience while you are in town and staying at the hotel. Even if you were not staying at the hotel, it would be sort of a sponsored message that delivered some great content to people looking to explore different options in town.
This spring – Alex and I resuscitated the idea & am happy to report that the first video of the campaign is finished. “Seaboard Secrets” is the name of the entire program and “Lunch Secrets – Beach View” is now online. Finished shooting and awaiting editing are “Lunch Secrets – Atlantic View” and “Lunch Secrets – Avenue Inn.” Slated for production in July is “Outdoor Fun.” Very excited to see this project come about. I am often talking about channel development on YouTube, and how other businesses can create content for their channels, what that content should consist of, etc. “Seaboard Secrets” is the perfect example of this. At a little over 2 minutes in length, YouTube is the perfect outlet for this campaign. YouTube is the second largest search engine online today (and it’s technically not a search engine.) Why is this? Google places a great deal of weight on tags, keywords, titles and video in general. This helps businesses rank higher in search results when customers are searching words or phrases that they can be found under.
Is this a selling campaign – no. It’s a sponsored campaign, but not one that directly fills rooms at their properties. It could, over time – but is not intended as a “stay here tonight campaign.” Seaboard Hotels instead becomes a resource – a resource for people who are looking to vacation at the Delaware Beaches – and a resource of what do do & where to go. It is a fantastic idea & one that I hope more businesses will say… “you know, we could do something like that with our business and share with people _____.” Need help filling in that blank, SugarFly Studios is a phone call or email away.
